MICHAEL J. HUMPAL, DC
Michael J. Humpal, DC graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2017 with Summa Cum Laude honors and academic excellence. He grew up in Northeast Iowa, and opened his practice in North Liberty, Iowa. Mike, his wife, Lindsey, and children, Parker, Nora, Savvy and Lettie enjoy being a part of the local community. Mike attended the University of Iowa from 2003-2007 where he earned his Health and Sports Studies degree, and was a student-athlete for the Iowa Hawkeye football team. In 2008 he was drafted to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Throughout his college and professional football career as a linebacker, he suffered from neck injuries. Having experienced this first hand, and eventually being the result of a career change, Mike was interested in finding ways to help prevent and treat spinal and extremity injuries for others. Dr. Humpal works with athletes, families, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, worker's compensation and auto accidents to provide pain relief, restore range of motion, improve quality of life, gain a competitive advantage, and achieve personal goals and optimal health. He believes chiropractic care delivers great dividends in patients’ lives through patient-centered physical and nutritional care.
Dr. Humpal received certification in Active Release Techniques of the Spine in 2016, Flexion-Distraction Technique in 2017, and utilizes trigger point therapy when needed. He is extensively trained in manual adjusting techniques, which include Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson, Motion Palpation and extremity manipulation. Dr. Humpal also provides neuromuscular electrical stimulation, Interferential stimulation, Russian stimulation, cryotherapy, thermotherapy and manual traction, as well as postural and therapeutic exercises, and passive and active stretches.
Mikaela D. Lengwin, DC, NREMT
Mikaela, aka Dr. Mac, graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota with a sports emphasis after completing her degree in Kinesiology at Loras College. While in Minnesota, Mikaela enjoyed her experiences working with patients of all ages, activities, and levels of fitness. She interned in the school’s Human Performance Center treating youth, collegiate, and semi-professional athletes, as well as weekend warriors, physical laborers, desk jockeys, walkers, golfers, and many more.
Dr. Mac grew up in Mount Vernon, competing as a gymnast, diver, and softball player, was a member of the high school marching band, and working on friends’ farms. In these various activities, she experienced stress fractures of both knees and neck injuries that led to alarming facial numbness. While completing in high school and college, she appreciated how chiropractic adjustments and supportive therapies balanced her nervous system and improved her spinal and extremity motion - contributing to her success as a student-athlete.
In 2023, she spent 3 weeks in rural communities surrounding Nairobi, Kenya treating hundreds of young students and orphans. Her favorite part was the ear-to-ear smiles after giving children their first chiropractic adjustments.
She is a lifelong learner participating in the American Chiropractic Association’s Sports Council Research Committee and is continuing research from her graduate studies on youth athlete injury prevention.
In her spare time, you might find Dr. Mac cycling, doing a H.I.I.T. workout, gardening, hiking, golfing, working at Kroul Farms, or paddle boarding on Lake Macbride!
Haden A. Hammel, DC
Haden Alin Hammel, DC, joined our team at Humpal Chiropractic in July 2023. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in June 2023 and was nominated for Palmer’s Clinical Excellence award. During his clinical internship at Palmer, he worked with a diverse range of patients, including collegiate athletes, active duty military personnel, desk workers, children, and weekend warriors. Dr. Hammel also gained experience by treating patients in Palmer’s Rehabilitation and Sports Performance department. Before Palmer, Haden attended University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where he majored in biology with a minor in nutrition.
Dr. Hammel grew up in Waukon, Iowa, where he excelled in academics and sports. He competed in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, and also worked for his grandfather's monument business. Throughout his athletic career, he experienced numerous aches and pains that come with being highly active. He discovered that adjustments and soft tissue care played a crucial role not only in helping him perform at a high level but also in aiding his effective recovery and swift return to action. Beyond the playing field, Haden enjoyed the overall health and wellness benefits that came from chiropractic care, which inspired him to pursue a career in chiropractic.
Nick S. Dolezal, DPT
Nick Dolezal was born and raised in Iowa City where he attended Regina High School. Nick suffered an ACL tear early in his high school sports career but was able to get back to playing quickly thanks to physical therapy. While in high school, he participated in soccer and football, winning multiple state championships in both sports. He went on to attend Truman State University where he was able to continue playing football as a kicker while he earned a degree in Exercise Science.
While in graduate school at Clarke University, Nick continued assisting with their new football program helping to coach the kickers. Nick graduated from Clarke University with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2021. He started his career as a PT in Arizona where he worked for an outpatient physical therapy clinic as well as helped to coach football at the local high school. He and his wife moved back to Iowa City in 2023 to be closer to friends and family and he continues to be passionate about helping out young athletes working with local high school sports teams as well as volunteering with the youth wheelchair basketball program.
Amber, LMT
Dr. Mac trained extensively in manual adjusting techniques including Diversified, Motion Palpation, Thompson Drop, extremity manipulation, and tailbone treatment. She’s also learned how important rehabilitation and training of the pelvic floor muscles are for pelvic and spinal stabilization. Dr. Mac also utilizes therapeutic exercise, patient education, passive and active stretching, and instrument assisted soft tissue therapies for decreasing pain, increasing range of motion,and helping patients reach their functional goals.
Dr. Mac believes each person has something to train for whether you are playing on the field every Friday night, sitting in a tractor or at a desk five days a week, or lifting the kids in and out of the car daily.
Through his clinical and personal experiences, Dr. Hammel has gained a deep appreciation for the benefits of chiropractic and rehabilitative care. Whether its training for a marathon or preparing for the workday, he believes that everyone should be able to experience life to the fullest without being limited by pain.

Outside of the office, Haden maintains an active lifestyle. You might find him lifting weights, running, or biking on local trails. Additionally, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, kayaking, hunting, and fishing. In his free time, Haden explores his passion for cooking as an amateur home chef.
Nick enjoys working with patients of all ages keeping them moving and enjoying life. Nick and his wife can be found spending time with their friends and family at various events in the community or out hiking with their dog.
Amber is an experienced massage therapist. Her specialty is therapeutic massage, medical massage and cupping with the intention of getting to the root cause of the muscle and soft tissue discomfort. She enjoys educating her clients to provide self-care to progressively reach a point of living without pain. This can be accomplished through deep tissue massage, trigger point work, sports massage, lymphatic drainage, and reflexology. While firm pressure is her strength, relaxation and comfort are part of her skillset as well. In her free time, Amber enjoys spending time outdoors and with her family and friends.
